Mission #5

I actually flew this mission with a buddy of mine about a month ago. I was the pilot in command even though he is a KC-135 pilot in the Guard. I decided to take a trip up to Coles County Airport to eat lunch at the Airport Cafe. Since Ben and I attended Eastern Illinois University together we knew about the giant pork tenderloin sandwiches. We would even eat there in college. The flight up took about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Once we arrived there were aircraft all over the place. They were having a function of some sort. We proceeded on the restaurant and ate like idiots. I had the tenderloin and an order of hand battered onion rings. The food was great, the service however, was not.

After lunch we headed back to 3K6 with a full stomach and cumulus clouds rolling in. We decided to fly over EIU for one good picture and then head west. The flight home had skydivers and gliders in our path. Made for interesting radio communication. Overall, I rate Coles County a 7 out of 10, just for the service being what it was. The airport is well maintained and easily accessible. Here's Airnav's link http://www.airnav.com/airport/KMTO.

Benton Memorial Airport H96

I had a great flight to Benton. Coming in from the northwest and descending over Rend Lake was pretty cool. The airport is very well maintained and the runway was as smooth as a baby's butt. Ran across 3 aircraft flying in the vicinity of where I was along my route, kind of nerve racking for a split second. Once I figured out thier direction I was back to scanning for more. The weather was as good as I had hoped for. With this mission complete I now start planning another one. Check out the video below for my flight to Benton.

Upcoming Mission

I'm going to take advantage of the weather we are having this week and get a good flight in. Tomorrow is supposed to be 72 degrees, sunny and a south wind from 3 to 7 mph. Sounds like the perfect day to me. After some searching on Runwayfinder.com I found an airport that looked interesting. I will be tracking southeast to Benton Memorial Airport (H96). I have never landed there before so I want to check it off my list. I'm also looking for new places to fish and Rend Lake is about 2 miles north of the runway. The flight should only take about 43 minutes there and back. Here is the link from Airnav.com for H96. http://airnav.com/airport/H96

One more thing, if you're thinking about renting Tomahawks from Shafer, they are down to one airplane.
